Today's pitching matchup heavily favors the Yankees. They'll have their ace, CC Sabathia, one of the game's elite hurlers, going against John Lackey, a guy that by most measures shouldn't even be in Boston's rotation. The fact that Lackey has more wins than losses only speaks to the Red Sox offense, which leads MLB in scoring.
Since CC's start against Boston on June 9th in which he struggled, he's been one of baseball's best pitchers: 76.2 ip, 1.76 ERA, 87 K, 17 BB. In three starts against the Red Sox this year though, he's allowed 13 earned runs in 19 innings for a 6.16 ERA.
Conversely, Lackey has been Boston's worst starter this season (104 ip, 6.23 ERA, 71 K, 30 BB). In one game against the Yanks this year (back on April 8th), he got the win despite conceding six runs in five innings. Lately, he's actually been solid. Since getting rocked by the Blue Jays on July 4th, he's pitched to a 3.41 ERA in five starts.
