Afternoon News

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Toronto Blue Jays agreed on a trade. The D'backs get Aaron Hill and John McDonald from the Jays in return for Kelly Johnson. A very interesting move, especially considering the Diamondbacks are in the playoff hunt and Johnson has 18 home runs. Guess that .287 OBP isn't impressive enough.

Wandy Rodriguez was claimed today by the Colorado Rockies. Good news for Yankees fans, as Wandy will not be a Yankee, and will also not be going to a fellow AL playoff team.

The Yankees lineup today will be Jeter SS, Granderson CF, Teixeira 1B, Rodriguez 3B, Cano 2B, Swisher RF, Posada DH, Martin C, Gardner LF. The Yankees are facing right handed pitcher (who also happens to be one of my favorite people to follow on twitter, and also happens to have a fantastic first name) Brandon McCarthy. Look at his twitter picture, it's hilarious.

Larry over at The Yankee Analysts takes a look at how well rounded the 2011 Yankees are compared to other years.

Beyond the Boxscore says that if the season ended yesterday the Yankees would eventually beat the Phillies in the World Series.

If you missed it, last night Jesus Montero went 5-8 with 2 HR and 7 RBI in a doubleheader. Ray Kruml made his AAA debut, Manny Banuelos got his first AAA win, (5 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K), Freddy Garcia pitched in a rehab start, (4 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 59 pitches), Andrew Brackman pitched well (3 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 31, pitches, 23 strikes) and Brandon Laird hit a pair of home runs.
