After a comeback win last night to win the first game of the series, the Yankees look to capture yet another series win tonight behind the young arm of Ivan Nova.
Nova's only start this season against the Royals was, according to gamescore, his worst of the season by far: Three innings, 10 hits, eight runs (only four earned) while issuing two walks and serving up two home runs. However, that was back on May 12 and Nova's been a dominant force recently. In his last three starts against the Orioles, White Sox and Angels: 20.2 innings, 17 hits, six runs, four walks and 16 strikeouts. It's worth mentioning that in his last start, he struck out zero batters and forced 15 groundouts.
Opposing Nova will be rookie southpaw Danny Duffy. This is the first time the Yankees will face the young lefty. Duffy sits around 93-94 mph on his fastball while mixing in a 75-76 mph curveball and 83-84 mph changeup every-so-often. What's interesting is that the amount of fly balls and grounders he's allowed are nearly identical (97 to 95). His K/9 of 7.46 is respectable enough, but his BB/9 is a bit high at 4.41.
