The New York Yankees came out and played a terrific game today, defeating the Cleveland Indians 9-1. There were no real negatives for the team in the game other than the lack of Jesus Montero and the 0-4's from Mark Teixeira and Russell Martin, so here are the positives.
-Freddy Garcia's combination of luck and talent continued to work, as his line read 6.2 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 6 K. Even better than ideal performance out of a fifth starter.
-Boone Logan, Luis Ayala, and Kevin Whelan were all effective enough. Logan did walk a hitter, but other than that the three got the job done.
-Derek Jeter hit two singles, both driving in runs, and is now at 2,993 hits for his career. Seven hits in four games is now what is necessary to get number 3,000 at home.
-Curtis Granderson was perfect on the day, getting hits in all four at bats. Granderson also drove in two runs.
-Alex Rodriguez drove in three runs, and had three hits of his own.
-Robinson Cano and Jorge Posada had a couple of hits each, driving in one run each as well.
-Brett Gardner hit two doubles and a triple, leading I'mGivingYouARaise and I to continue to praise him.
-I did not see Austin Kearns smile.
The Yankees will try to sweep the four game series tomorrow night!
