The Yankees and Mets mark the 15th anniversary of their interleague rivalry tonight when the crosstown squads begin a weekend series at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees enter the game 23-19, riding a three-game winning streak. The hard-luck Mets have done a noble job hanging around in the NL East with a 21-22 mark.
Surprise, surprise, weather could be an issue tonight with the forecast calling for rain. Hopefully they get this in tonight.
If you missed it, check out Chris' post from earlier today breaking down the history of the Subway Series since Dave Mlicki's 34-hit shutout of the Yankees in the first meeting between the teams in 1997. Perhaps it was because I was younger, but I remember these games really meaning something back then. It doesn't seem so life-and-death anymore, but it still makes for a fun sideshow during the grind of a long season.
Tonight's lineup:
1. Jeter SS
2. Granderson CF
3. Teixeira 1B
4. Rodriguez 3B
5. Cano 2B
6. Martin C
7. Posada DH
