Mood Music - Hey Joe by Jimi Hendrix
Well, the only thing in question in this one was whether the rain would hold off long enough for it to be a complete game. After a rain delay pushed back the start, the Yankees jumped all over Orioles starter Brad Bergesen for five runs in the top of the first inning, fueled by extra base hits from Derek Jeter, Curtis Granderson, and Nick Swisher.
That would prove to be more than enough for CC Sabathia, who was in control all night, throwing eight shutout innings. The Yankees did manage to pile on some insurance runs, highlighted by home runs by Mark Teixeira and Eduardo Nunez. Amauri Sanit made the 9th inning an adventure, but nobody died.
After sweeping this short set with the Orioles, the Yankees will now head home to host the Mets.
Play of the game: Nick Swisher's bases clearing double in the first inning.
Comment of the Game: NYR #35 Richter for providing some comic relief.
