Mood Music - I've Had Enough by The Who

New York Yankees starting pitcher Ivan Nova was solid today, going 6.1 innings, surrendering 2 runs on 6 hits and four walks, and striking out five.  While he lost his fastball command at times, he managed to get out of some of the jams that have been his bugaboo of his young career, relying heavily on a sharp curveball.

David Robertson and Boone Logan combined to clean up the rest of the 7th inning, and Rafael Soriano and Mariano Rivera pitched the 8th and 9th innings for the second straight day.

Offensively, the big hero was Curtis Granderson, who belted his eighth home run of the season, putting the Yankees on top for good.  Also, Brett Gardner reached base in all three of his plate appearances, and seems to be working counts and slashing the ball much better.

On the downside, Alex Rodriguez has fallen into a bit of a funk and Robinson Cano was pinch hit for without any explanation.  We'll have to see what the scoop is there, but for now, it is another series win for the Yankees, who will now go on the road to face the Detroit Tigers.
