After a frustrating series-opening loss to the Blue Jays, the Yankees go back to battle against Canada this afternoon at sunny Yankee Stadium.
A.J. Burnett makes his final April start in what has been a very promising first month. You know how it goes with Burnett, though — you just hope this isn't the setup for a May catastrophe. The Yankees simply can't afford that shtick from Allan James this summer.
New York's 14-9 record is good for a 1 1/2 game lead over the Rays in the AL East. If you're keeping track — and I know you are — the Red Sox are back in the cellar at 11-14. On April 30 of last year, the Yankees were 15-7 and a game and a half behind the Rays.
Today's (A-Rod-less) lineup:
Derek Jeter SS
Curtis Granderson CF
Mark Teixeira 1B
Robinson Cano 2B
Nick Swisher RF
Eric Chavez 3B
Jorge Posada DH
Russell Martin C
Brett Gardner LF
Update (From Frankie Camp): A-Rod is out because he's played seven days in a row, and Girardi wants him to rest his legs. There is nothing particularly wrong with him.
