New York Yankees News & Notes: 4/20/11

10% of the way through the season, Brian Cashman should get solid marks for his offseason scrapheap pickups. Russell Martin, Eric Chavez, and Bartolo Colon have all more than exceeded expectations, and while it's still far too early to declare their signings a success, we'll take what we can get, because this trio has more than helped to offset the slow starts and injuries that a couple of regulars have struggled through so far.

  • On the subject of LOOGYs, The Yankee Analysts have some scary news, both about Pedro Feliciano and Boone Logan. I mentioned this in my latest Fire Girardi post, but although Logan is the absolute epitome of a lefty specialist, Girardi uses him against righties almost as much as lefties! This is bad, because while Logan is basically CC Sabathia versus same-handed hitters, against righties, he's Javier Vazquez.
  • Speaking of the ex-Yankee ace, Javier Vazquez isn't doing so well this year, and while it's a small sample, I'm guessing he was either hurt last year, or he's done.
  • According to RAB, the Yankees are going to let Kevin Millwood pitch in the minors up until his 5/1 opt-out deadline before making a decision. Carlos Silva, on the other hand, is still in the extended Spring Training conditioning program that Bartolo Colon apparently skipped.

Check back at 11 a.m. if you feel like making some reckless and wild speculations, and then at 1 p.m. I'll tell you why nobody hits .400 anymore.
