Mood Music - All Caps by Madvillain
Ivan Nova wasn't as brilliant as his last outing, but your (presumed) New York Yankees 4th starter front-runner was solid, tossing six innings and yielding two earned runs on three hits, two walks, and two strikeouts. While Nova ended up with a pretty stat line, he was often wild and was the beneficiary of good fortune and outfield defense, turning several line drives into big outs.
After Nova, Rafael Soriano gave up two runs (one earned) in 2/3 of an inning, with both of his outs coming via strikeout. Boone Logan finished Soriano's inning, Joba Chamberlain threw a scoreless inning, and David Robertson made things interesting by loading the bases in the ninth, but, in true Houdini fashion, escaped without giving up a run.
Offensively, Brett Gardner (seriously) and Eric Chavez hit home runs, and Russell Martin had a single, a walk, and a two run triple. While the Yankees continually got runners on against Nelson Figueroa, they were unable to put together a big inning.
The Yankees will take on the Pirates tomorrow at 1:05.
