A.J. Burnett allowed a run in each of the first three innings (and four overall), but only two of the runs were earned. Russell Martin made two throwing errors (and didn't seem to jive with Burnett), while Eduardo Nunez booted a ball. On the bright side, Burnett struck out five without issuing a walk in four innings of work.
The Yankees had 17 baserunners, but only went 3-14 with RISP and hit into three double plays. Brett Gardner (who had the Yanks only XBH) was gunned down at the plate by new Blue Jay (and ex-Yankee) Juan Rivera. Melky Mesa didn't help matters by getting picked off second.
Brandon Morrow, who had a 12-strikeout game last year against the Bombers, excelled again today, with five shutout innings (3 h, 6 k, 3 bb).
Jorge Vazquez, of course, had a hit (to go along with his first walk of the spring). Curtis Granderson continues to rake: 2-2 with a walk, raising his BA to .361.
Freddy Garcia starts at 1 p.m. tomorrow against the same club.
