New York Yankees News & Notes: 02/18/2011

  • Since both the Derek Jeter and Albert Pujols contract drama are over, let's move on to the next one: CC Sabathia's opt-out clause at the end of this season. It's About The Money gets it right - CC will opt out, regardless of what he's said in the past, and the Yankees will extend him another few years with a contract that carries all the weight (no pun intended) of what they offered Cliff Lee late last year.

This year it’s all about shock value and scare tactics. Are the Yankees perfect? Of course not. No team is. PECOTA projects them to have the second best record in baseball and the top offense, but you’d never know it by some of the coverage they receive. You’d think they were one pitch away from a Pirates-esque run in the cellar.

  • FanGraphs talks about two recently retired PED-implicated Yankees and the Hall of Fame, and reminds us some other "enhancements" that players used in the '80s and '90s - the 1880s and 1890s, that is. And before you go on saying about how it was different, it wasn't. The only real difference was the lack of nonstop media coverage beating the thing to death.
