Mood Music - Fly By Night by Rush
Name: Boone Logan
Date of Birth: August 13, 1984
Contract Status: Logan signed a one year contract worth $1.2MM to avoid arbitration on January 18th, 2011.
2010 Stats: 40.0 IP, 2.93 ERA, 3.73 FIP, 8.55 K/9, 4.50 BB/9, 1.35 WHIP, 0.4 WAR
2010 in Review: Acquired as a deal sweetener in the Javier Vazquez trade of a season ago, Boone Logan bounced around between AAA and the big club in 2010. While with the Yankees, Logan was primarily used in the LOOGY (Lefty One Out GuY) role.
The Good: A shiny 2.93 ERA, to go along with a fastball that can touch the mid-to-upper 90s (93.3 MPH average), and solid numbers against lefties (.188 BAA, 12.09 K/9)
The Bad: Logan's control seems to come and go, resulting in far too many walks. He also posted a very poor split against right handed batters (.279 BAA, 4.08 K/9, 5.09 BB/9), and his peripherals indicate that a 2.93 ERA was not a true indicator of his talent level.
2011 Outlook: With the addition of Pedro Feliciano to the bullpen (who is another pitcher who is only effective against lefties), Logan will most likely be knocked down a peg on Joe Girardi's totem pole. Neither Logan nor Feliciano should be used against right handed batters, but it remains to be seen how Joe will be willing to deploy two pitchers with such limited uses.
