Yankees/MLB Hot Stove Report: Posada, Reyes & Buehrle

New, comments

A fair amount of rumors and news are flying around the interweb despite it being early in the hot stove season.

  • Jorge Posada said he's done with the Yankees, has been contacted by five or six teams, and hasn't decided on retirement yet.
  • Brian Cashman said it's too early to say if he'll go after a big-name addition for the Yankees' rotation. He has asked for the medical records for several pitchers (who they are is unknown) though. Also: Ivan Nova's strained forearm - which forced him out of ALDS Game 5 early - has healed completely. And the team expects a summer 2012 return for Joba Chamberlain.
  • With a new stadium opening next year, the Marlins look like they'll be players in the free agent market. They've met with SS Jose Reyes and LHP Mark Buehrle. They're even interested in Youtube/Cuban star Yoenis Cespedes.
  • The Phillies are reportedly close to re-signing their closer, RHP Ryan Madson, to a 4-year, $44 million contract.
  • The Cardinals, Cubs and Red Sox are looking for new managers. Names floated about for the Cubs have included Sandy Alomar, Mike Maddux, Pete Mackanin, Dale Sveum and Ryne Sandberg.
  • For the Cards: Sandberg, Mike Matheny, Terry Francona, Jose Oquendo, Chris Maloney and Joe McEwing.
  • And Boston: Alomar, Sveum, Torey Lovullo and Gene Lamont.
