SBN Awards Week Kicks Off With MLB Rookies of the Year

New, comments

We'll be announcing SBN's own awards* to pre-empt the "official" BBWAA awards next week.

Today will be the Rookie of the Year for both the AL and NL.

In the junior circuit, SBN gave it to Seattle's Michael Pineda. The 22-year-old RHP used a mid-90s fastball to have a great rookie campaign: 3.74 ERA (103 ERA+), 171 IP, 1.10 WHIP, 173 K, 55 BB.

The top five were rounded out by, in order, Eric Hosmer, Jeremy Hellickson, Dustin Ackley and our own Ivan Nova. An argument could certainly be made for Nova though, who had a better ERA in a tougher ballpark whilst facing better lineups than Pineda.

In the NL we gave it to Atlanta's closer, Craig Kimbrel. The 23-year-old RHP struck out a whopping 127 batters in 77 innings to go along with a 2.10 ERA (181 ERA+) and 46 saves.

Two through five went: Danny Espinosa, Freddie Freeman, Vance Worley and Wilson Ramos.

Do you agree or disagree with our choices?

* The voting was done by the managers of all of SBN's MLB sites.
