Happy Friday, everyone!

Remember last month when Robinson Cano was apparently asking for a bigger contract? Well, maybe it really was in jest. The entire situation, according to a Spanish-language website (and MLBTR), truly was a misunderstanding that whirled into a sizable rumor.

"I’m not thinking about the contract. My lawyer told a journalist as a joke that I was looking for a contract extension, and that’s what got published… I’m not thinking about that. The team has a $14MM option for next year." -Cano

Not sure what the joke exactly was. I'd say $14 million isn't anything to cry over, though.

Brian Cashman explains that there isn't much action on the free agent market yet to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News. The following are some quotes from the GM.

"My current conversations are very preliminary," Cashman said. "Unfortunately I haven’t been buying much lately. At some point I’ll get back in the game, but it’s been easy to stand down since last winter. I hate to say it."

"It’s not like I’m opposed to making trades — but it’s been easier not to make trades based on the asking prices thus far," Cashman said. "It’s not like I don’t want to. I’d like to do something. But I’m not going to do something at these current costs."
