Well, it's official. Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig announced that the playoffs will add two Wild Card teams, one in each league, for a total of ten playoff teams. Selig remains hopeful that the change will occur in 2012.
I can't stand the idea of a second Wild Card team in each league cheapening a playoff system that is already a crap shoot in its nature. It hasn't been announced if the two Wild Card teams will play a one-game playoff or a three-game series, but neither makes sense from a baseball point of view. After a 162 game season, what will a one-game playoff or a three-game series prove?
This is strictly about making money.
I can't blame them for that. Baseball is a business, and a multi-billion dollar industry. They should do everything they can to maximize profits, but they should do this by keeping the integrity of the game in tact.
There are so many ways to pick this decision apart, but I'll leave that to you. What are your thoughts? Positives? Negatives?
