Earlier this morning, it was announced by GM Brian Cashman that Jesus Montero would not be participating in winter ball this offseason -
He wanted to, but he doesn't need the at-bats and with a catcher, you want to avoid risk. We want to keep him healthy.
Can't say I disagree with the decision. Montero, merely 21-years-old, will be working out with Alex Rodriguez in January to keep in great shape. I'm sure he'll be ready to go when pitchers and catchers report. It's widely assumed at this point that Montero will be the full-time backup catcher to "all-star" Russell Martin.
- CC Sabathia will apparently be taking part in an "Athletes Against Drugs" tour starting on November 21. First stop is Andrew High School in Chicago, IL.
- Mike Axisa and his take on the Los Angeles Dodgers signing Matt Kemp to an 8 year, $160 million contract.
- Nicely done article by the folks over at The Yankee Analysts about the Yankees and "excess capacity", referring to the ever-growing payroll.
- And a morning hot stove update.
