Yankees/MLB Hot Stove Report: Kemp Extension, Wilson & Phelps

New, comments

If you dreamt of Matt Kemp playing rightfield for the Yankees in 2013, you can forget that. He's "on the verge" of signing an 8-year, $160 million extension (an NL record) with the Dodgers. Yoenis Cespedes' stock just went up a little.

  • C.J. Wilson is looking for an offer at least equal to A.J. Burnett and John Lackey's 5-year, $82.5 million deals. With as badly as those two have done, he might find it tough, especially since the Yanks have only "minimal interest."
  • Yankee RHP prospect David Phelps was named the Arizona Fall League Pitcher of the Week. At this point, he's in the mix for the fifth starter's spot next year.
  • The players union and the owners are reportedly close to a new collective bargaining agreement that would not include hard-slotting for draft picks.
