New York Yankees News: CC, Cashman and Taiwan

Fearing CC Sabathia will opt out of the remaining four years of his deal on Tuesday, the Yankees offered him a new contract. But SI's Jon Heyman says CC will test the free agent waters regardless.

  • Brian Cashman's new contract is "just about" complete, according to the Daily News.
  • To ease your anxiety, John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman will indeed return to the Yankees broadcasting booth in 2012 as WCBS 880's voices of the club. Whew.
  • Speaking of the radio, a war could be brewing between the Yanks and Mets, as their respective radio contracts expire in a year. Where will they end up?
  • A squad of major leaguers will play a five-game series against a Taiwanese All-Star team. Curtis Granderson and Robinson Cano will play for the visitors while Chien-Ming Wang will represent his homeland. The games will air on MLB Network starting tomorrow night.
  • Cano, Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera are in the running for GIBBY (Greatness in Baseball Yearly) Awards. Vote for your favorites.
  • The only year in the last 12 in which the World Series was the top ratings getter was 2009. With FOX's contract up after 2013, will they re-up? Hopefully not.
  • Ouch (on many levels).
  • Mike Francesa made another mistake. It would be one thing if he admitted it and apologized, but no... What else is new?
