Andy Pettitte is probably coming back. "Why work out if he isn't coming back?" asks a rival GM.
The Royals have this really great catching prospect. He's so great, in fact, that they'd rather not have him play catcher. Now this suddenly-former-catcher is farther from the big leagues than Jesus Montero, but I see a lot of long term parellels.
Sure, in 2011, if Montero hits as well as we hope he will then he'll be an improvement at catcher over Jorge Posada and Francisco Cervelli. But if Montero hits as well as we hope, then do the Yankees really want to lose 30-40 games a season while he rests or expose him to the wear and tear of a full season behind the plate?
As expected, Jorge Posada will be coming to camp prepared to catch. Cashman has talked about flexibility for so long, I'm sure he doesn't want to lock up the DH role with a player who is only prepared to DH. I think Jorge should not only prepare to catch 20-30 games per year, but be available to play first base in blowouts and emergencies.
