It was a tough night for division leaders as the Yankees, the ChiSox, the Braves and the Pads all lost.

The timetable for Andy Pettitte's return is taking shape, even if the manager claims not to have given it much thought:

Moseley is assured of pitching Monday afternoon against the Red Sox and is all but certain to make another start, next Saturday in Kansas City. If Pettitte becomes an option after that, perhaps on Aug. 19 against Detroit, he would rejoin the rotation after missing four and a half weeks, just as expected.

Can you believe that Cervelli's error was the first error the Yankees have made with Vazquez pitching all season? In the beginning...

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have an Ace sighting:

As long as Alfredo Aceves comes through his bullpen session Saturday without discomfort, he is scheduled to pitch Tuesday night for Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre

An A's minor leaguer who was suspended for PED use claims he is clean and is planning an appeal and a fight. He was suspended for taking Methylhexanamine; he took a pre-workout drink called 'jack3d', which lists 1,3-Dimethylamylamine as an ingredient.  How well does the average minor league trainer know the banned list?  The article doesn't say whether or not the kid cleared the substance with a trainer.

So far as I know, the PED suspensions are either never appealed or unappealable. This could be interesting.

And around New York sports: the Mets' bullpen is awful, really really awful

The Knicks are idiots if they think Isiah Thomas has any useful basketball information left to share.  The man has basically ruined the last decade of the NBA for me.  Why would they let him do it again?
