Phil Hughes got 11 outs and allowed 11 baserunners. That's usually not a recipe for a win and tonight was no exception. At least it helped his innings limit.....
This game was never really close - the Jays jumped to an early lead, and the game was only as close as 2 runs for an inning. The Yankees did rally a bit in the 9th inning to close the lead to 3 runs and create an official save situation (you're welcome, Kevin Gregg).
If you're looking for a silver lining, Javy to teh penz! Vazquez was solid in relief, allowing a single run over 4 1/3 innings (and his relief ERA now stands at 1.93 for the season).
Play Of The Game: Marcus Thames' 2-run homer increased the Yankees chances of winning by over 10%....to a whopping 23%.
Quote Of The Game: After Vernon Wells' 2-run homer in the 4th inning, there was talk that everyone should turn off their TVs and computers, to which david d said:
Okay, sounds good to me. I'll check back after I turn on (off?) my wife.
Well, said, my friend. Ahh, the joys of marriage.....
