Ivan Nova had another stellar start (6.2 ip, 5 h, 1 er, 4 bb, 7 k), and has been tearing up the IL since June. He's pitching on the same days as Dustin Moseley - might he get Mose's next start?
- Trenton's Adam Warren set a Thunder record with 15 strikeouts in seven innings last night -
"I think I shook off [Austin Romine] one time tonight maybe," Warren said. "We were really gelling tonight, and that's the way it's been all year. It makes it easier as a pitcher, you just get the ball and throw. It helps you stay in that rhythm and pound the zone."
The UNC product said he was clocked between 90-94 mph with his fastball.
Definitely a guy to keep an eye on next year.
- Frankie Piliere attended last night's Tampa Yankees game, and said this about 19-year old lefty Manny Banuelos -
This is gonna drive Yankees fans wild. Banuelos just touched 97 MPH in the 1st. Sat 93-94, 95 a bunch.
To me, he's the Yankees top pitching prospect.
- Also check out Piliere's full scouting report on Andrew Brackman -
Given the progress I've seen from last year to spring training to now, I'd have to say that the righty has shown the ability to improve rapidly. He now shows solid command in the strike zone, a smooth and rather effortless over-the-top delivery, and the dynamic arsenal of a top-of-the-rotation starter. If given the time and patience to develop, he now has all the ingredients needed to make an elite big league starter. Again, there is much work to be done, but Brackman now is much more than just a guy you can dream on, and instead is a pitcher making outstanding progress.
"If given the time and patience to develop..." Hopefully his major league deal doesn't interfere with that.
- The Yankees first-round pick, SS Cito Culver, and top IFA from last year, C Gary Sanchez, were promoted to the Staten Island Yankees (so go check 'em out). Culver has steadily improved in his short time in the GCL while Sanchez has been called the best hitter in the GCL. They'll both likely start 2011 in Charleston.
