Tonight, A.J. Burnett takes the hill against the A's. If there was ever a soft spot on the schedule, a spot that was almost tailor-made for a struggling pitcher, this is it. The A's rank near the bottom of the AL in most offensive categories, most notably walks, home runs, and slugging percentage.
Facing him will be Gio Gonzalez, who's outperformed his FIP by about half a run. Translation: he's gotten lucky this year. He's not quite the Austin Jackson of pitchers, but he's unlikely to maintain the pace he's on. (I know how much some of you hate to hear words like "luck")
Let's hope he starts sliding tonight, and let's hope that Good AJ shows up.
(We'll have an overflow thread up at 11:30 for you West Coasters/young whippersnappers who are still up).
