The Yankees defeated the Mariners 8-2 today, thanks to sloppy play by Seattle, solid hitting by New York, and another outstanding performance by CC Sabathia.

In Sabathia's last 8 starts he is 8-0 with a 1.81 ERA. Sure, he continues to get much better run support than Javier Vazquez, but he also has been pitching very well. Sabathia went seven innings, giving up six hits and one earned run.

The Yankees scored twice in the first on a Robinson Cano sac fly and a Jorge Posada two-run single. In the 3rd, Mark Teixeira scored on a wild pitch. In the 4th, Derek Jeter hit a two-run double and Mark Teixeira added an RBI double. In the 5th, Marcus Thames hit his 3rd home-run of the season, a two-run shot.

The Yankees finish the first half of the season at 56-32, the best record in the MLB.

Play of the Game: Jorge Posada's two run single.

Nice to see the Yankees get the victory on the day that one of the greatest Yankees names passed away. For those of you that haven't heard yet, Derek Jeter will use Bob Sheppard's recording of his introduction for his All-Star Game at bats. R.I.P. Bob Sheppard.
