Tonight is a night of good news for the Yankees. Jorge Posada is expected to DH, Mark Teixiera is expected to play first base, and Phil Hughes is taking the hill.
Hughes has been the Yankees best starter this season. Currently, he ranks 4th in the AL in wins, 5th in ERA, 6th in K/9, 3rd in FIP, and 8th in WAR. (As a side note, Joe Girardi will be managing the AL squad in this year's All-Star game and somebody needs to start that game.)
Tonight he'll face Brad Bergeson, who has a strikeout rate (2.42) that looks like a really good ERA. Unfortunately, his actual ERA is pushing 6.00, and he's performed at sub-replacement level this season.
Let's not jinx anything, but read between the lines and think about what might happen tonight.
