We have been here before. The Yankees won their 10th contest with the Orioles in a row last night. Even a shaky CC Sabathia was enough to hold the mediocre Baltimore offense to 2 runs over 7 innings, Joba was just good enough for a scoreless 8th, and Mo was Mo.
But we're faced with the Crash Davis problem: one extra Texas flair, one more groundball with eyes, and everything is different.
It's great to be lucky, but thinking your luck will hold out or that your team just 'knows how to win' is the recipe for defeat. New pitchers, new day.
Bad AJ showed up last outing, and he needs to rebound.
Jake Arrieta is making his major league debut. The 24 year old righty has dominated AAA this season: 1.12 WHIP, 7.9 K/9 and a 1.85 ERA. His command has never been good, he posted a 4.2 BB/9 in AAA so far, which is actually up from his 3.8 BB/9 for his career.
Hopefully the Yanks will stay patient and wait for the mistakes.
