Oh, no. Two straight losses and Javier Vazquez pitching tonight! Yuck. I'm surprised some of you even got out of bed this morning.
Vazquez takes his 9.78 ERA to the mound tonight in Detroit. Many of you, I'm sure, are not looking forward to it. Vazquez, though, says he is -
Working on 10 days' rest and after multiple bullpen sessions that he said went well, Vazquez is hoping to join the band of Yankees starters who have delivered sweet music.
"I am looking forward to [tonight]," Vazquez said. "I don't know the last time I took a break like that."
Vazquez upped the intensity in his two bullpen sessions and lengthened them from 40 to 60 pitches.
"When you struggle your confidence goes down," Vazquez acknowledged. "But I feel good about [tonight]."
Let's hope Javy gives us something to smile about.
- I know Monday night was a loss. But, you to love what you saw from David Robertson and Joba Chamberlain. Robertson, who had been awful, pitched an effective 1.2 innings. Chamberlain pitched an absolutely dominant 8th inning, likely the best he has thrown the ball since his 2007 rookie year. Several 97-98 mph fastballs, if you believe the seemingly generous Comerica Park radar gun. No matter. First time in a long time it looked like hitters had zero chance against Joba. Hopefully, we see that more often.
- Jorge Posada started behind the plate Monday night. Here is an article, though, that I know many of you will love.
- I am not a big fan of NY Baseball Digest, but here is a quote in NYBD today regarding Nick Johnson that did make me laugh.
"It was a really risky move by Cashman. Johnson is about as sturdy as a cupcake. He could hurt himself going to the bathroom. I don’t care what people say about his on-base percentage. You can’t get on base if you’re always on the DL".
- FINAL NOTE: Fellas, the nightly Game Thread Minka Kelly photos and the comments about what you want to do to her are getting old. And so are the classless, juvenile sexual remarks in general. I have been issuing warnings and deleting comments. You know what comes next. You want to be here, have some maturity.
