Late Night Links: "True Yankees" and Minor-League Options

New, comments
  • After the game Joe Girardi said that Curtis Granderson is "probably going to be DL'd." Chad Jennings is reporting that the Yankees will likely call up a pitcher such as Jon Albaladejo, Mark Melancon, or Royce Ring. If not, the Yankees could go with another outfielder to replace Granderson such as Chad Huffman or Greg Golson.
  • Personally, I'd like the Yankees to call up another outfielder, as with the way the Yankees starters (minus Vazquez) are pitching and the way Randy Winn is hitting, the Yankees can use all the help they can get in the outfield.
  • Don't forget Joe Girardi loved David Winfree in Spring Training, but Winfree is not on the 40-man roster. If it were up to me I'd DFA Huffman and promote Winfree, but I don't think that will happen.
  • Prediction is Granderson gets DL'd, Melancon is promoted for a few days, then the Yankees promote Golson.
  • Update: It's Melancon.
  • How about the 2004 Yankees? Both Nick Johnson and Javier Vazquez are still doing horribly and don't seem to be improving at all. Minus Marcus Thames, the whole bring back the old guys idea doesn't seem to be working out.
  • Personally, I think it is too early to knock Vazquez out of the rotation, but if the Yankees do decide to do such a thing, the options would likely be Sergio Mitre, Joba Chamberlain, Alfredo Aceves, Ivan Nova, or Zach McAllister. If it were up to me I'd go with Vazquez for now, send down Mitre to stretch him out, and call-up Melancon for the meantime. If not, maybe Nova, but not Joba.
  • How about The Onion? Great piece by them, hilarious!
