The Yankees got off to a rough start this afternoon, as A.J. Burnett gave up two runs in the bottom of the first inning. After that? Smooth sailing for the defending champs. The Yankees went on to win 7-3 thanks to home runs from Jorge Posada (2 run) and Nick Swisher (solo). Burnett was dominant following the shaky first inning and only threw 92 pitches in 7 innings of work.
The interesting part of Burnett's game is that he only struck out one batter (Jason Bartlett) Burnett had a solid game, but don't understate Curtis Grandersons performance. Granderson went 2-4 with a run, an rbi, a stolen base, and a couple of great plays in the field.
Following Burnett on the mound was Joba Chamberlain, who gave up a run over an inning of work. After him came Mariano Rivera who simply shut down the Rays over a solid no pressure 9th inning and finished off the series.
Play of the Game: Jorge Posada's two run home run in the 6th inning.
