Consider this the Carsten Charles Sabathia appreciation thread.
We all know how good the Yankees can be.
But in case you doubted. In case you forgot. The Yanks put their ace on the mound today, and the $23 million dollar man was on.
He threw a no-hitter into the 8th inning, leading to one of the most comment filled game threads in PA history (I'm not going to be responsible for jinxing a no-no by starting a new thread).
But it was more than that. Sabathia threw 111 pitches over 7.2 innings, and that's after needing 21 pitches to get through the first. From the second till the eighth, he cut through the Rays.
Sabathia was the star, he was player of the game, he was everything he needs to be.
And the Yankee offense fired on all cylinders, too. Only Nick Johnson went hitless, while Tex, Arod and Cano broke out in a big way: 7 for 13, with 4 RBI. Anyone who's been nervous about Cano in the 5 spot (like me), had better brace for a big year. But it wasn't just the long-ball working for the Bombers today; Granderson and Gardner each swiped a base while Cervelli and Gardner tacked on clutch 2-out RBI.
The Play of the Game was Robbie's 2 run homer, which swung the game 22% in the Yanks favor.
Comment of the game: long time listener
CC owned the game today, but momentum is only as powerful as the next day's starter. Taking the first two series of the year from the top contenders in the AL would be a great statement, but it hasn't been made yet.
