Spring Training Game 1: A trio trying out

We'll see Chad Gaudin, Sergio Mitre and Al Aceves, all (supposedly) trying out for the fifth starter spot. The fun starts at 1:05.

Gaudin looked damn good. In fact, so did Mitre and Aceves. The trio retired all but one batter (the lone hit was an infield single), and induced 10 groundouts to four flyouts with three Ks.

Albaladejo sucked terribly: he failed to retire a batter as he allowed two hits, a HBP and three runs.

We got a little taste of how good the Yankees outfield defense may be - Brett Gardner made a great catch on the leftfield warning track just a few pitches after Jamie Hoffmann made an outstanding grab in deep rightfield (the wind and sun made the outfield especially tough today).

Royce Ring made an early statement to be the second lefty in the pen: he faced two batters and K'ed both.

Ramiro Pena homered to rightfield (he has five in 377 MiL games).
