Yanks at Phillies

Because of yesterday's rain out, the Yanks will play an intra-squad game in addition to their 1 p.m. match with the Phils.

Burnett and Hughes are still set to pitch in the inter-squad game, with Joba, Mo, Marte, Ho, Pettitte and D-Rob going in the all-Yankees affair.

The Phils matchup is set for 1:05 on YES and ESPN.

  • Postgame notes -

This was a weird one. Burnett gave up five runs in the first, then shut down the Phillies over the next three as the Yankees climbed back to take the lead.

Phil Hughes gave up a homer on his first pitch, looked good for another two innings, then served up a second homer. And finally, in the bottom of the ninth, he let Philly win on a walkoff homer. The six K's are certainly encouraging, but not the three homers.

At this point, who knows who's at the top of Girardi's list for the fifth starter. Joba pitched decently in the intra-squad game (5 ip, 2 er, 6 h, 1 bb,1 k), but that doesn't mean as much as a real (Spring Training) game.

Grandy and Pena had two hits apiece while Tex had four (including a longball).

As Brandon mentioned, Jamie Hoffmann is returning to the Dodgers, apparently opening a spot for Marcus Thames.

No game tomorrow.
