Bill Dickey Appreciation Thread

I took this picture, it's blurry I know, but it's Suzyn Waldman's signed ball next to David Cone's.

By Bill Dickey Appreciation Thread, I do not mean Open Thread. I forgot to mention the past few days that I was planning on going on a tour of Yankee Stadium today. It poured, but I went on the trip anyway. Some notes:

I've seen the ball wall in the museum many times, but I didn't notice Suzyn Waldman has her own ball in it. It's a shame that she gets to be in there with Derek Jeter, David Cone, Bob Sheppard, among others.

Monument Park is awesome. It's sad actually, I live in Long Island and it seems like every time I've planned on visiting it was either closed early or the traffic was too much for me to get to it on time. Now that I have finally seen it, wow.

Finally, about Bill Dickey. I think I knew a good amount of the information the guide was saying about Dickey before the tour, but no one else seemed to know anything. A few facts:

-Dickey is the only Yankee with his number retired to not have his own Yankeeography.

-Dickey got his number retired because Yogi Berra, who he mentored, requested it.

-Dickey was very, very close with Lou Gehrig.

So anyway, feel free to talk about Dickey, maybe tell some reasons why you think he is better/worse than Yogi Berra, and reflect upon the least appreciated Yankee possibly in the history of the team.
