Using a lineup analyzer/optimizer, I input the on-base percentages and slugging averages of every hitter from the past season. The analyzer does not take into account speed or handedness, so bear that in mind.
Below is/should have been the optimal 2010 Yankees lineup (which would average 5.701 runs/game):
1. Brett Gardner
2. Robinson Cano
3. Marcus Thames
4. Mark Teixeira
5. Nick Swisher
6. Curtis Granderson
7. Jorge Posada
8. Alex Rodriguez
9. Derek Jeter
Among the 30 best lineups, you'll notice three things in common: Gardner leading off, Cano hitting second and Jeter last.
Please discuss.
