Game 130: Put the Sweep Shoe on the Other Foot

New, 236 comments

The Yankees have lost only 3 of 19 series since June 25th when Brian Cashman made his surprise visit in Atlanta: to the Angels, to the White Sox, to the Rangers.

Despite the Yanks' dominance, there has been a lot of talk about 'they can't handle contenders.'

Somehow, taking 5 of 6 from the Tigers has done nothing to quell the doubts. The Yanks exorcised their Red Sox demons earlier this month with a 4 game sweep in the Bronx and 2 of 3 in Boston. They're 5-4 against the Rangers despite Chien Ming Wang starting one game, and the Rangers never facing CC Sabathia. They're 2-4 against the Angels, with a chance for vengeance in Anaheim at the end of September.

But vengeance comes today against the White Sox.

Joba Chamberlain takes the hill, looking to rebound from his last outing, and hoping that pitching consistently every 5th day will help his control.

The next opponent to leave shell-shocked is Freddy Garcia. Returning from a shoulder injury after more than a year of rehab and bouncing around the minors with the Tigers and the Mets, he pitched 4 innings against the Royals (5 runs), then held down the Red Sox (3 runs in 6 innings).

Bring the brooms.
