Explosion!

The Yankees were down by a run... then they exploded for seven runs in the fourth and cruised to a 12-3 victory.

A.J. Burnett had just one bad inning (the third), when he allowed all three runs on a homer by Nelson Cruz. Other than that, he struck out eight and walked just one (unfortunately, the walk ignited the Rangers' two-out, three-run rally).

The big blow in the fourth was a three-run shot by Hideki Matsui a few batters after Mark Teixeira was hit by Vicente Padilla for the second time. Only three homers were hit tonight, a drop off from the 3.78/game previously - maybe this was the Stadium on a pitcher-friendly night...

The Yanks also made their first error in 18 games when Posada overthrew second on a steal. Despite that, we saw some stellar defense, starting with Brett Gardner's catch in deep center (that prevented two runs) and two nice plays by Melky in right-field.

Jose Veras finally threw a scoreless inning (his first since May 24).
