Game Recap: Yanks win, finally head home

A quick 'Kudos and Wet Willies' style review of today's impressive 4-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Kudos to ..

  • Andy Pettitte: A tremendous effort from the veteran lefty, working 7.1 efficient innings. Pettitte looks primed for a good year.
  • Derek Jeter: His game-winning 9th inning single was the second straight day the Captain has come up with a huge 9th inning hit. Tuesday it was a game-clinching three-run home run. By the way, has anyone else noticed that Jeter is driving the ball better through the first nine games this season than he did last year?
  • Brian Bruney: This guy is just blowing people away right now. He has struck out the last five hitters he has faced. Wow!
  • Robinson Cano: Continued scorching the ball with a double and a two-run home run. Right now he looks like the star the Yankees thought he would become when they signed him to the big contract before last season.
  • Cody Ransom: The struggling infielder came up with a huge 9th inning hit and hustled it into a double, setting up Jeter's game-winning hit. Good for him.

Wet Willies to ...

  • Mark Teixeira: An 0-for-4 day with three strikeouts for Tex. He did turn a brilliant double play throwing out Gabe Kapler trying to advance to third base on a ground out, though.
  • Troy Percival: If you didn't understand this already, Wednesday made it clear. When it comes to the 9th inning the Yankees (and the Red Sox) have a HUGE advantage on the Rays.
