PREGAME NOTES:

The Yanks have lost 10 of 15 games since their 8-game win streak.

Sidney Ponson is a lifetime 11-2, 2.55 ERA, 1.16 WHIP against the Twins. He is 2-0, 2.25 ERA, 1.30 WHIP in 3 starts against the Twins in 2008.

JOBA/MATSUI UPDATE: It appears Joba is going to begin a throwing program on Wednesday to rehab his injured right shoulder.

Joba expects to be back in the rotation before the end of the month but I'll believe that when I see it considering Joba doesn't have the final say in this matter. The Yankees' hierarchy and medical staff will make that decision.

In other news, Hideki Matsui ran the bases for the first time since late June and could be ready to begin a rehab assignment in a few days if there are no setbacks.

NOT SO FAST, JOBA: Kim Jones on the YES pregame stated via Joe Girardi that Joba will start his throwing program on Friday - not Wednesday - at the Stadium in front of the coaching staff.
