PREGAME NOTES:

  • It appears the Morgan Ensberg Project has officially ended. According to Mark Feinsand, Ensberg has been designated for assignment and spring-sensation Scott Patterson (1-0, 3.04 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 3 saves) has been promoted from Scranton to fill a need in the depleted bullpen.
Feinsand also speculates that word on the street is Dan Giese (4-2, 2.02 ERA, 0.98 WHIP) will be called up from Scranton on Tuesday to fill the long man role in relief of Joba Chamberlain. Giese was scheduled to start for Scranton today so we'll find out soon enough if a change has been made.
Nick Blackburn will make his first career appearance against the Yanks.
  • Darrell Rasner is a lifetime 1-0, 1.50 ERA, 0.67 WHIP in one career start against the Twins.

UPDATE:

Dan Giese was removed from his outing after one inning of work, so it does indeed appear that he will be called up on Tuesday to fill long man duties for Joba Chamberlain.

Conventional wisdom would suggest that Patterson will be sent back down to make room for Giese, but it could be Chris Britton again since Girardi sees no reason to use him anyways.
