Believe it or not, there are just two Yankee starters that have not gone yard in the first two games of this series: Andy Phillips and Alex Rodriguez.
Nothing wrong with Jeter today, just getting a day off to rest some minor aches and pains. Wilson Betemit will make his Yankee debut at SS.
Clemens has had great numbers against the ChiSox throughout his career (20-11, 3.07 in 39 starts). Garland has pitched well against the Yanks (3-5, 3.07 in 8 starts), but hasn't been the beneficiary of much run support.
For those of us feeling giddy about catching lighting in a bottle with Shelley Duncan, I find it a bit ironic that on this day in 1990, Yankee rookie Kevin Maas hit his 10th home run of the season in just his 77th AB -- the fastest any player had ever reached that mark.
On a sad note, it was on this day in 1979 when Yankee Captain Thurman Munson was killed in a plane crash in Canton, Ohio. A crowd of 51,151 would attend the memorial tribute at Yankee Stadium the next day.
I stumbled upon this image of a NY Times article (dated 8/06/79) which details Munson's funeral service. It is somewhat distorted and not exactly ideal for reading, but worth it if your eyes can handle the abuse.
