Bobby Abreu has been given the A-Rod treatment of the 2006 ALDS and dropped to #8 in the lineup and Hideki Matsui has been moved to the #3 hole. Johnny Damon is back in the lineup as the DH after resting the weekend. I'm sure it won't be long before he misses time again.
Not to put a hex on tonight's game, but Andy Pettitte has had Cy Young-like success against the Orioles throughout his career (20-5, 3.79 in 29 starts). Jeremy Guthrie has made just one relief appearance in his career against the Yankees (2.0 IP, 0.00).
The top graphic is the official team logo of the original Baltimore Orioles used in 1901. As most of you know, the franchise eventually moved to New York in 1903 and changed their name to the New York Highlanders. Of course, the Highlanders later changed their name to the Yankees in 1913.
The bottom graphic is the cap logo of the old St. Louis Browns from 1945 to 1953. After decades of futility and playing second-fiddle to the cross-town Cardinals, the Browns moved to Baltimore after the 1953 season and changed their name to the Orioles.
Finally, Mr. Derek Sanderson Jeter was born on this day in 1974. Happy 33rd Birthday, Captain.
