Bernie Rejects Offer

I looks like Bernie Williams is one step closer to ending his career with the Yankees. He has rejected New York's invite to Spring Training. Still the club house door hasn't closed completely to Bernie according to his agent Scott Boras.

He certainly feels he can be a helpful contributor in '07," Boras said. "He wants to remain loyal to the Yankees and doesn't feel it's appropriate for him to play for another club."
It is my hope that Bernie exits his career with the Yankees and baseball gracefully and simultaneously. It's a shame that one of the ballclubs greatest players is now expendable. Still, with athlete's there's always the struggle over knowing when is the right time to hand up your cleats. In this case it looks like, barring catastrophic injury, progress will win out over loyalty.
