Just got home. In about the tenth inning the bar flies and I started asking each other: "Is this the greatest game you've ever seen?"
Being on 23, and having only watched a little more than a decade of baseball I can't answer no too quickly.
Much debate ensued about the value of clinchers versus run-of-the-mill postseason games. But this game has a do or die, extra inning, walk off play at the plate? You know it's gonna be high on the list.
Here's the list we came up with:
1) Luis' Blooper Yankees vs D-backs, Game 7, November 4th, 2001
2) "The Greatest Game Ever Played" Twins vs Braves, Game 7, October 27th, 1991
3) The First Wild Card Champ Indians vs Marlins, Game 7, October 26th, 2007
4) Aaron F'ing Boone Red Sox vs Yankees, October 16, 2003
5) Padres vs Rockies, October 1st, 2007
6) 2 Games for the Price of One Braves vs Astros, October 9th, 2005
7) Kirk Gibson A's vs Dodgers, Game 1, 1988
8) Barry Bonds could never play defense Pirates vs Braves, October 14th, 1992
9) I Still Hate Watchign Ken Griffey Jr Run Yankees vs Mariners, October 8th, 1995
10) Mr. November Yankees vs Diamondbacks, Game 4, October 31st, 2001
I confess to not remembering numbers 2, 7, and 8, but we took a bar poll and these are the results I wrote down on my napkin.
What games did we miss? Which ones did we judge wrong?
