Some relief help:
Veras, 25, has never pitched in the Majors, having spent the past eight-plus years bouncing around the Minors. In 26 relief appearances with Columbus this season, Veras was 2-2 with eight saves and a 3.00 ERA, striking out 35 batters in 33 innings.
"He's been throwing the ball good," Torre said. "We know Veras has a dynamite arm; the inconsistency with his command has been the only concern."
