The Yanks won a less highly regarded bid for 27 year old Japanese pitcher Kei Igawa with an offer of 25 million dollars. Igawa clips can be seen on Youtube.
Though he doesn't have the rocket arm of Matsuzaka, he's a lefty with pretty good breaking stuff and a fastball that tops out at around the low 90's. We'd be getting more of a Japanese Pettite or Al Leiter instead of a Japanese Clemens. The price and age seem right to fit at the bottom of the rotation or out of the bullpen in the Proctor role if he is given a starting job next season.
