Fixing the Yankees

T.J. QUINN lists five suggestions on how to restore Yankee pride.

To determine what the difference is between the most expensive division winner in history and the most expensive World Series winner, the Daily News turned to a series of experienced, accomplished, but mostly anonymous experts for their take. Here are some of the suggestions they came up with.
  1. DUMP A-ROD. REPLACE HIM WITH A HARD-NOSED PLAYER
  2. GET HELP FOR JOE TORRE
  3. FIND A SUB FOR MARIANO RIVERA BEFORE ONE IS NEEDED
  4. GET MORE STARTERS, NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES
  5. DEVELOP YOUNG TALENT - CHANGE IS A COMIN'

The experts take is pretty similar with what most Yankee fan would want. A-Rod needs to go. I really wanted him to do well in pinstripes, but now he's too much of a distraction. Getting help for Torre is really about how he uses his bullpen, but if we had better starting pitching then Proctor wouldn't have to throw 100 innings. The Angels will never trade K-Rod, but he'd be the guy--although his antics are quite annoying. I had hoped that BJ Ryan would have been given the 40 million to come here, but he wanted to be  a closer right away. He was a great pick up for Toronto.
