I know after a death everyone is supposed to say nice things. But the outpouring of affection in this case, from former teammates such as Derek Jeter, Ken Griffey Jr., Mark Mulder and Carlos Delgado, among others, really speaks to what kind of a quality guy Lidle was.
The managers, owners, and GMs of the teams he played for all also seem to be heartbroken. And let's not forget Jason Giambi, Lidle's high school teammate, who seems devastated.
Read many of their reactions here.
On a personal note. One of my most vivid memories as a small kid is the Thurman Munson crash. I will never forget how I found out (from a friend's sister in the playground), telling my shocked father when he got home from work and yes, crying many tears. I'll also never forget the tribute to Munson that night, with his one-time nemesis Reggie Jackson crying in right field.
I am not sure if this is why it's hit me so hard, or maybe because I am very close to Lidle in age. In any case, my most sincere condolences go out to his family.
