Yanks Win Wild One-8-7

New, comments

I'm exhausted. The usually sound defensive Angels committed costly errors and miscues that allowed the Yanks to come from behind and steal another win from the Angels.

Anaheims's outfield defense kept them in the game early, but an error by Erstatdt in the eight opened the door for the Yanks to tie, and Cabrera mishandled the game ending grounder off of Sheffield's bat to let the Yanks tie the score in the tenth. Sheffield's misplay in the top of the tenth almost caused Mariano to be a loser as the ball went through his legs to allow Figgins to go to third in the top of the tenth. He scored the go ahead run on a blooper by Vlad.

In the eleventh, Matsui scorched a triple off the the wall in center and Womack slashed a one out single to drive in the winning run.

Giambi tied Mickey Mantle's Yankee record of hitting his fourteen home runs in a month. Cano's slump during the series didn;t effect his defense as he made several sparkling plays to keep the Yanks in the game.
